Overview: Electrical Infrastructure Installation for New Six-Story Parking Deck
Intuitive, a global leader in minimally invasive surgical care, was expanding its Peachtree Corners, GA campus to include more than 750,000 square feet of facilities. FTI was contracted to install electrical, power, lighting and fire alarm systems in the campus’ new six-floor parking deck. The team installed a 3,000-amp electrical service that included a battery inverter emergency backup system, lightning protection system, 15 dual-port electric vehicle (EV) chargers and low voltage pathways.
Challenges: Extended Lead Times and Weatherproofing Challenges
The main challenge that FTI faced was the extended lead times for the gears required to complete the project, which were continually affected by supply chain delays. They also had to develop weather-resistant conduit solutions to accommodate the exposed areas of the parking deck.
Solutions: Early Project Completion with Prefabricated Solutions
To meet key deadlines, the team pivoted to a different gear package provider to keep the project schedule on track. They also leveraged prefabrication techniques, ultimately completing the project two months ahead of schedule. During installation, FTI implemented a more direct and weather-resistant method of connecting exit signs and reviewed specifications to ensure the correct conduit type was used for transformers in wet or outdoor conditions.
