Delivering More Than Power: How FTI’s End-to-End Approach Drove Success at Children’s Wisconsin

Our recent work at Children’s Wisconsin, a leading pediatric hospital in Milwaukee, is a strong example of how this approach adds value and supports success. At a facility where exceptional care depends on the systems behind the scenes, reliable power is critical. So, when it came time to upgrade the hospital’s power monitoring and metering system, they called on FTI.

We’ve been a trusted partner of Children’s Wisconsin for more than 25 years, and this project highlighted how impactful early collaboration makes a difference. By working closely with the hospital team from the beginning, we were able to plan effectively, maintain clear communication and complete the upgrade without disrupting patient care.

Power System Upgrades with Proven Results

From November 2023 through February 2024, our team led the power monitoring upgrade across 19 substations. The work included improving power quality, optimizing load sequencing, integrating a cybersecurity-compliant virtual server and addressing infrastructure issues as they surfaced along the way. With every phase handled in-house – from planning and engineering to installation and optimization – we quickly adapted to changing needs and kept things moving forward.

We partnered closely with the hospital’s facilities, safety and IT teams to ensure smooth operations throughout the project. That involved developing shutdown plans specific to each department, resolving unexpected substation issues, correcting breaker positioning and implementing real-time monitoring tools to improve system visibility and resilience. As a result, Children’s Wisconsin saw a 130% reduction in peak power demand spikes and gained a stronger, more stable power system.
