Electric Charger to Create Clean Energy Solution for Heavy Truck Fleets

Menasha, Wis. (Oct. 20, 2020) – Faith Technologies, an energy expert and national leader in electrical planning, engineering, design and installation, installed the first 150kW ABB Direct Current (DC) Fast Charger in the state of Wisconsin. The DC Fast Charger will allow Class 8 (heavy duty) trucks to charge within two hours.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), motor gasoline and diesel fuel consumption in the U.S. transportation sector accounted for 81% of total U.S. transportation sector CO2 emissions in 2019.

“The tide is starting to turn away from our reliance on traditional fossil fuels. Both the public and private sector are putting stakes in the ground and pledging to reduce or eliminate carbon emissions in the coming years,” explained Caramy Biederman, Faith Technologies electrical engineering team leader. “These chargers allow truck manufacturers and transit companies to trade out old fleets that rely on gasoline for cleaner, more energy-efficient fleets, cutting back on the amount of greenhouse gases being admitted into the atmosphere.”

The DC Fast Charger has been designed to work seamlessly with a microgrid, eliminating additional stress on the main power grid and helping companies control their energy costs. Microgrids, similar to the one Faith Technologies installed at the Bubolz Nature Preserve in Appleton, Wisconsin in partnership with Schneider Electric, can provide additional power or allow for the charger to be completely off the main power grid, using energy produced from the sun, geothermal and battery storage.
